KARAOKE INDUSTRY TERMS AND DEFINITIONS Note: All karaoke formats discussed have the lyrics that come across the screen for the singer to read. CD+G (Compact Disk plus Graphics) - This format disk is the American made standard karaoke disk. The CD+G format has better sound than Midi or VCD (Video CD). CD+G does not have a video in the background. Instead it has a plain background and the words come across the screen. Most common format used by disc jockeys and professionals and also perfect for the home user. They may or may not have a background singer also known as "multiplex". Our CAVS 101, CAVS 202, and CAVS P-99 play this format. These disks normally contain 10 to 20 songs except for the CAVS JB-99 that comes with 11,000 CD+G's on a hard drive. SCDG (SUPER Compact Disk plus Graphics) - This new format has the same quality and characteristics as the CD+G. The only difference is that the music is compressed so up to thousands of songs can be recorded to one disk or other media. This popular new format is quickly gaining popularity because it is much cheaper to buy one disk with 100's or 1000's of songs instead of having to buy the individual CD+G disks that contain just 10 to 20 songs. Our CAVS 101 and CAVS 202 players play this format. VCD (Video Compact Disc) - This format disk is normally made in Asia. VCD's have a video in the background but the sound quality is usually very poor. VCD's also usually have the "multiplex" or background singer. They can be used for home use only. Our CAVS P-99, CAVS CDO-98, CAVS 201, CAVS 101, and CAVS 202 will play VCD's. MIDI - This format is compressed computer generated music. Thousands of songs can be recorded on one disk or micro chip. This format usually comes with a video in the background. The sound quality varies but this format is not recommended for professional use. All of our magic microphones use this format. Our CAVS P-99, CAVS CDO-98 and CAVS 201 playthis music and thousands of free songs. MP3 - This is a music format that is usually recorded from a DVD or CD from the computer via a download or other method. The sound quality is like DVD quality and very good.
